چکیده

remains unclear, but given the patient’s history, a direct crossborder origin could be excluded. Since the blaIMP-19-carrying plasmid could not be mobilized, its contribution in terms of carriage of additional resistance genes could not be assessed and further investigations will be necessary to understand the potential advantage conferred by acquisition of this plasmid by the VIM-producing strain. Nevertheless, the detection of blaIMP-19 in a P. aeruginosa strain of the CC235 epidemic lineage is of concern, since this could promote blaIMP-19 dissemination in the clinical setting.

Prevalence of mycoplasma pneumoniae and macrolide resistance in children with community-acquired pneumonia: a case study in a teaching hospital

Background: Mycoplasma pneumoniae is one of the causes of upper and lower respiratory tract infections especially in children, and antibiotics affecting the cell wall do not affect this type of infection. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae and macrolide resistance in children with community-acquired pneumonia in Kerman city. Methods: This cross-sectional study...

Investigations of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections in the United States: trends in molecular typing and macrolide resistance from 2006 to 2013.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a leading cause of respiratory infections, including community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Currently, pathogen-specific testing is not routinely performed in the primary care setting, and the United States lacks a systematic surveillance program for M. pneumoniae. Documentation of individual cases and clusters typically occurs only when severe illness and/or failure to im...

Clinical Characteristics of Macrolide-Resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae from Children in Jeju

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is the major pathogen of community-acquired pneumonia in children. The prevalence of macrolide-resistant M. pneumoniae (MRMP) is important owing to the limited alternative therapies for children. We analyzed 111 M. pneumoniae obtained from 107 children admitted for lower respiratory tract infection at Jeju National University Hospital between 2010 and 2015. Macrolide resis...

Emergence of macrolide-resistant strains during an outbreak of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections in children.

OBJECTIVES Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a frequent cause of human lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) for which macrolides are the treatment of choice. The aim of this study was to determine the rate of macrolide resistance and to subtype M. pneumoniae strains in Italy. PATIENTS AND METHODS During an outbreak of M. pneumoniae infections in southern Italy in 2010, 48 clinical specimens from...

Severe community-acquired pneumonia caused by macrolide-resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae in a 6-year-old boy.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is the commonest agent causing atypical pneumonia in children. Macrolides have long been used in the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia not responsive to beta-lactams alone. In this report, we describe the first locally acquired paediatric patient with severe community-acquired pneumonia caused by macrolide-resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae, possessing an A-to-G trans...

Mycoplasma pneumoniae: Current Knowledge on Macrolide Resistance and Treatment

Mycoplasma pneumoniae causes community-acquired respiratory tract infections, particularly in school-aged children and young adults. These infections occur both endemically and epidemically worldwide. M. pneumoniae lacks cell wall and is subsequently resistant to beta-lactams and to all antimicrobials targeting the cell wall. This mycoplasma is intrinsically susceptible to macrolides and relate...
